"Clear glass is the material that appeals to me most. I love how
it refracts the light, how it always manages to hold the stage. A
small glass object may be as distinguished as the greatest
showpiece."
Glass artist and ceramist Ingegerd Råman came to Orrefors in 1999.
Taking her childhood snowball lanterns as her inspiration, Ingegerd
Råman has created bowls of two different sizes. Blown in opaque white
glass, SNOWLIGHT's optic squares and stripes form an intriguing
pattern when a lit candle is placed in the interior. During the
summer, SNOWLIGHT is the perfect bowl for big bunches of flowers.
"I emphasize simplicity and clarity.
I love empty spaces, transparency.
I am a professor who wants every day to be as beatiful as possible.
I only keep a few things. Few, but important.
We need the light to compensate for all the darkness in the North."
Ingegerd Råman is a new designer at Orrefors, but she is in no way
new to glass or design. She has spent the majority of her life working
with glass and ceramics in various shapes. Ingegerd has made a name
for herself by creating beatiful, simple designs. SLOWFOX is a series
of cylindrical bowls and vases decorated with Ingegerd's take on glass
graffiti. At Orrefors are proud of counting Ingegerd among their
talented designers.
Ingegerd Råman has studied at Instituto Statale D'Arte per la
Ceramica, Faenza, Italy and University College of Arts, Crafts and
design, Stockholm, Sweden. She was appointed Honorary Professor by the
Swedish Goverment in 1995. She is represented at Victoria and Albert
Museum, London; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Corning
Museum of Glass, USA; Riihimäki Glass Museum, Finland; National Art
Gallery, Stockholm, Sweden.
