"For me, Orrefors is focus and elegance."
Lena Bergström studied at the Universitiy College of Arts, Crafts
and Design in Stockholm, with concentrations in textile design and
art. She started as an Orrefors designer in 1994. With a sure-handed
feeling for design, her pliant, graphical body of work represents a
new generation of expression. Lena Bergström has recived Excellent
Swedish Design awards for two of her glass collections. She is
represented at the Röhsska Museum of Applied Art in Gothenburg.
Collection PASTILL COLOUR
Fresh, delicate as a spring day, Pastill Colour, Lena Bergström's
latest collection of Expo bowls, is a veritable feast tor the
eye. "I wanted to step up my format and do something elegant for
the living room," says Lena.
The bowls, with their transparent, coloured interior and white
overlay exterior, are aviable in two sizes. The larger bowls make
eye-catching solitaires, while the smaller are more functional.
Pastill was introduced in autumn, 2001, and originally came in
white with a black interior. Pastill Colour, the new limited-edition
Expo Collection, was the result of further experiments with form and
colour. Pastill Colour comes in white/red, white/beige, white/light
blue and white/lemony green. The larger bowls have been produced in a
limited edition of 300 for each colour combination, while the smaller
Pastills are limited to a run of 500 bowls of each colour.
Collection FLOVERS
The name Flovers was coined from a combination of the words Flowers
and Lovers. The two cylindrical vases seem deeply in love and cling
happily to each other to form a spacious, colourful pillar. Two
objects in one - vases for tall bouquetes and, when combined, an
elegant sculpture.
"I enjoy doing designs with cylindres, both in textiles and
glass," says Lena. "Flovers make lovely solitaries, even
when they are not in use."
The edition is limited to 100 pieces in each colour.
Collection Hi-Lo
Two object in one. A road, low vase for big bunches of tulips pairs up
with a cylinder for tall bouquets. The vases are retained by a
sandblasted collar, forming a single unit.
Hi-Hi is a development of Lena Bergström's new Hi-Lo vase. Like
Hi-Lo, Hi-Hi is a two-in- one piece of clear glass with a sandblasted
décor. The deeply blasted bands on the upper and lower section bring
the two vases together in a single unit. "When the pair combines,
the bands give an impression of depth, suggestive of the massive
thickness of the glass," explains Lena. Limited edition of 100
pieces.
